A client with a plant in Steelpoort purchased a thickener mechanism from us in 2016, in 2022, it was found that the thickener underflow contained viable grade PGM's. We conducted lab and pilot plant filter press test work. After this, we designed, built, and commissioned a filter press plant to dewater the thickener underflow. It is a very successful project. The plant has a 1500 x 1500 x 89 chamber fully automatic filter press. The filter discharges 5 chambers with every plate shifter movement, giving a very short cycle time. The filter press is fed from an agitated feed tank, via a two-stage Alpha pump running at 12 Bar pressure. The cake moisture is perfect for loading and transport.
